Position

  • Reports to the Senior Director, Corporate Affairs.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, recommend for approval and execute programs that support Corporate Affairs strategies.
  • The key company representative when called to interface with the media, conduct interviews, review news releases and ensure that a strong and positive corporate image is maintained with the media and the public at large.
  • The company’s representative on the operating committee of the Canadian Tobacco Manufacturers Council (CTMC), communicating the company’s viewpoint while keeping the Director, Corporate Affairs fully appraised of all issues requiring decisions, investment or involving the General Manager, Canada.
  • Develop and convey clear, concise and accurate information as well as receive, retrieve and access external information.
  • Manage internal and external resources within a highly visible and regulated industry as well as manage controversial issues.

Profile

  • Ideally bilingual (English a must).
  • Communications Executive with a minimum of 5 years’ experience in Public Affairs.
  • Far-sighted planning approach, positive communication and influencing skills and the candidate will be qualified against the following core competencies: converting challenges into opportunities, predicting possible interpretations and anticipating the consequences of all actions and reactions, crisis management and maintaining a consistent results oriented track record.
  • A thorough knowledge of the Canadian media.
  • Ideally, has experience in a regulated environment (e.g. pharmaceuticals, bio-medical, wine & spirits, gaming, utilities, etc.) and with advocacy groups.
